Dear Superintendent O’Malley:

          Bulwer said “Personal liberty is the paramount essential to human dignity and human happiness.” The Board of Education may require uniforms for middle school students to wear every day of school. The school board should not have students of public schools wear uniforms. School uniforms limit self-expression and individuality, are more expensive and costly for parents, and have no effect.

         “Requiring uniforms, she says ‘doesn’t allow you to express your uniqueness and individuality.’” Uniforms limit self-expression and individuality. They make students wear specific clothing to school. Students’ clothes will make everyone look similar. The opposition would say that people cannot say they are better than someone based on their clothing. This reason is incorrect because students will find other ways to accessorize with things like jewelry so that they can say they are better. Limiting self-expression and individuality is really bad for a school.

           “Students will still want nice clothes for after school, so they will have to buy uniforms and regular clothes.” Uniforms are more expensive and costly for parents. Parents will have to buy clothes for school and outside of school, so kids will not stand out in a crowd. If, they do not buy another uniform they will have to wash it every day. The opposition would say that it would be cheaper, because the school gives students the uniforms. This reason is incorrect, because parents will end up paying for extra uniforms as well. It is a real problem that uniforms are expensive and costly, especially in this poor economy.





           “A 2001 study by the Educational Testing Service found little difference in the amount of misbehavior between schools that require uniforms and schools that do not.” Uniforms do not make any change in school performance. A study showed that there was no change in behavior. The uniforms do not make any change in how well you do work. The opposition would say that they help students concentrate more than focus on clothing. Their reason is incorrect because how people look does not change how they think and focus. The problem that they have no effect should stop students from having uniforms completely.

           It is in my best interest that the Edison Board of Education does not require uniforms for students. One reason school uniforms are bad is that they limit self-expression and individuality, which takes away some freedom. Another reason is that they are more expensive and costly which is very bad for our economy. The last reason is that they have no effect, which shows that they are completely useless for education. To require uniforms for students would take away the freedom of students.

Boardroom Proposal

            Walding basketballs are the best balls with the best inflation. Spalding and Wilson basketballs are becoming too old. People prefer trying new kinds of things like Walding basketballs. It would be a great decision for people to have this product with many interests for people of different ages. The best things about the basketball are that it is better than other leading brands like Spalding, it is much better than other brands, and the free pump inside really helps players.


           Walding is better than other leading brands like Spalding. 75% of Americans want to buy it, and are interested in basketball overall, that watch it or play it. In addition, NBA players use them to practice their skills. It also encourages people to get active and go out and play, because it is so great and they just get hooked on it, and do not continue just lying around on the couch all day. Other leading brands just simply are not as good as Walding is.

           The basketball itself is even better than other basketballs. Its leather material on the outside allows you to get a better grip on the ball. It also goes a long time without being deflated. Furthermore, the ball does not pop as easily as other ball pop, because of its strong material, so that you could handle it roughly and still not worry. Others are made of weak material that can be destroyed easily and pop easily, too.

           The free pump inside really helps players. If, they play in a league, the person can take it with them to practice and use it there. When the ball goes flat, it can be inflated again so that the players can still have fun playing. Best of all, other balls can be pumped up, so that there can be many people playing games with many basketballs, such as knockout and dribble knockout. It allows people to have more fun than they could possibly have without the pump.

           Walding basketballs may seem like other ordinary basketballs, but they are not anything alike. For one thing, it is actually lighter than other basketballs. The ball can be shot easier than other brands, so there is a better chance of them scoring. It is even possible to put better spin on it to go in. All of these qualities really contribute to how great the product is.

            It would be a great decision to give people of many different ages the chance to buy Walding basketballs,  because they gave many interests in them. The ball has many qualities, so that it is better than other kinds of basketballs and many people would like to buy it. The free pump can be used for many different things to help the players. To put the ball in stores for people to buy and get many people active and playing would be great.

Reflection

          My commercial was on Pepsi from the Coca-Cola company with Cesare. I like my piece because we got to advertise a real product and get real statistics for our commercial. We also had the chance to encourage people to buy a soda, even though I do not like Pepsi. I feel I am good at showing off an item to an audience. During the commercial I made sure to try to maintain eye contact with the audience. Some areas I could improve in are putting more emotion into my commercial, and not talking like a robot, so the audience will believe it more. Persuasive essay writing techniques and strategies I'd like to try next time are using coupons to urge the audience to buy my product. When they see how great the product is, and that it is cheap there is nothing stopping them from going out and buying it. The part of the writing process I enjoyed most is coming up with claims because they helped support why my product is awesome and better than other brands of it. My goals for the next time I write are to use better supporting details to persuade the reader even more.  Some things I learned about myself through this project are that I can be very creative, can perform well in front of an audience, and be really good at persuading people to buy things.

Television Station Persuasion

           My product for the commercial is Pepsi soda. It is made by the Coca-Cola company and is very refreshing. It has the 150 calories, which is less than many other sodas. Pepsi is also very low in sodium, while other drinks have lots of sodium. Many kids and adults love to drink soda, so that it would interest many people. The commercial itself is only one minute long so that you still have time to get in many other advertisements that people may be interested in. We also do not want to be paid that much, because our sales will get us a big amount of money. The last fact about Pepsi is that 32% of people prefer it over other sodas. Pepsi is a really great soda that many people enjoy.
